Stage V. Catalogue of heliospheric and magnetospheric phenomena for the solar cycles 23

Contract no : 81-021/18.09.2007

Deadline: 10.12.2010

Activity V.1. – Correlation between solar wind parameters and geomagnetic indices (ISS)
  • •  Correlations between solar wind velocity with the geomagnetic indices Ap pointed out some degree of linear dependence between the heliospheric cause and the induced geomagnetic effect. Using the Dst geomagnetic index, with a higher resolution (one hour), the significant effects during the main phase of the geomagnetic disturbances were found. Taking into account the southern (negative) Bz component of the heliospheric magnetic field a higher correlation was found.

Activity V.2. – Temperature distribution analysis for solar wind plasma (INFLPR)

  • •  The solar wind density and temperature were analyzed marking out their time evolutions for entire solar cycle 23.

Activity V.3. –C atalogue of heliospheric and magnetospheric active phenomena for solar cycles 23 (ISS + IGAR)

  • • A complex catalog of the heliospheric and magnetospheric disturbances covering the whole solar cycle 23 (1996 – 2008) was set up. The catalog contains all HSSs and all significant geomagnetic storms (Dst < - 50) during the above mentioned interval. Main parameters of the HSSs, Bz value of the heliospheric magnetic field as well as the Dst value at the maximum of the geomagnetic storm associated are given. The catalog can bee visualized on the internet, be found at: http://www.spacescience.ro/new1/GS_HSS _ Catalogue.html
Activity V.4. – The solar-cycle-related variation in the main geomagnetic field (IGAR)

  • • The solar-cycle-related variation, present in geomagnetic data is identified, three different methods to render evident the 11-year variation have been applied and values for the time interval 1960-2005 were obtained, for data from European network of geomagnetic observatories.

Activity V.5. – Geomagnetic measurements in the national network of repeat stations (IGAR)

  • •  The geomagnetic measurements in 15 stations of the national repeat stations network, located in central and western regions of Romania, were performed. The H, D, I and F components of the magnetic field were determined. These data will complete the IGAR database for future analysis.

Activity V.6. - Dissemination of results
