Stage II. Preliminary catalogue of the High Speed Streams (HSSs) in the solar wind and the analysis of the geomagnetic activity during the solar cycle no. 23 (1996-2007)
Contract no: 81-021/18.09.2007
Deadline: 30.06.2008

Activity II.1. - Setting up the HSS catalogue for the interval 1996-2007 (ISS)

  • HSS is a solar wind flux, which has an increase of 100 km/s between the smallest 3-hr velocity value for a given day and the largest 3-hr value of the following day, lasting for at least two days.
  • The catalog, by years, can be found at ISS web site:
    http://venus.nipne.ro/new1/HSS_Catalogue.html

Activity II.2. - The study of the composition of the solar wind plasma in heliosphere (INFLPR)

  • The solar wind composition was analysed by its main constituents (protons, alpha particles, oxigen, iron) and their distribution in time. The solar wind sources imprint on the registered composition was also analysed.

Activity II.3. - Analysis of the geomagnetic activity for the solar cycle 23 and reinterpretation of geomagnetic data (1964-1980) from the IGAR archive (IGAR)
The following studies were performed:
  • Time evolution of the geomagnetic indices aa, ap, DST during solar cycle 23;
  • Correlation analysis of the geomagnetic indices with the HSSs parameters function of their origin;
  • Reinterpretation of the geomagnetic data from the Romanian archives;
  • The study of long term variability for the measured value of terrestrial magnetic field

Activity II.4. - Dissemination of results: papers presented at local and international scientific meetings.
